Travel by air
The airport of Chania is situated 14 kilometers off the city of Chania. In most cases, the traveler will need to switch planes at the Athens E. Venizelos Airport or Thessaloniki’s Macedonia Airport in order to fly to Crete. During the summer and autumn months, however, many charter planes from mostly European cities operate directly to Crete.
Transportation from Chania Airport to Platanias village

2. Public Bus Services. You have to take two buses to reach Platanias village. Bus routes from the Airport to Chania will be available in 2019. From Chania’s central station switch to the bus to Platanias. Bus routes with departure from Chania to Platania will be available in 2019.
3. Taxi. Taxis are available outside the arrival terminal exit. The approximate time to reach Platanias is 30 minutes. Or if you are travelling with your family or friends you can reserve a mini bus from Edem Travel, Taxi Sfakia or Taxi 4 Crete.
Travel by sea
The island can be reached by boat from Piraeus. For a High speed ferry the travel time to Chania is between 8 and 9 hours.

You can reach the port of Piraeus directly from Athens International Airport using:
The suburban railway service called ‘Proastiakos’
The Express Bus X96 running between Piraeus Port and the Airport. The Bus Station is just outside the arrival terminal exit. Fare is 6.00 Euros.
The Metro: using line 2 from the Airport to Monastiraki Metro Station. There you need to change to line 1 (Piraeus direction) and get off at the last stop in front of the Port.
Taxi. Taxi’s are available outside the arrival terminal exit. Cost of transit depends on the traffic. Indicative cost is approximately 30 Euros (during daytime).

Power & Electricity
The electricity supply in Greece is alternating current 220 V, 50 Hz. Appliances for 110 or 120 V may be operated by using step down transformers of 220/110 V.
Power receptacles are Type F CEE 7/4 (“Schuko” grounded)
This receptacle is also compatible with Type C CEE 7/16 (Europlug 2.5 A/250 V ungrounded) depicted on the right.
Currency
Euro is the official currency of Greece.

Health and Insurance
There is a public hospital near the city, “The Chania General Hospital St. George” and many private doctors. The organizers cannot accept liability for personal accident, loss or damage to private property, which may be incurred as a result of the participation to the Conference. Participants may, therefore, arrange for appropriate insurance coverage in advance.
